neon french manicure: do it yourself

October 20, 2011 § 40 Comments

when i spied this cute mani in a japanese fashion magazine i just knew that i had to recreate it! i love reading japanese magazines because they’re always a step ahead of us in fashion and especially with nail trends. while in japan a few years back, i noticed these saucy nail looks and remember thinking how different it was back in the states, not only with our manicures but also with regards to fashion in general. and it’s interesting how what was completely unacceptable a few years back, is now the norm today. case in point: mixing black with navy {a color combo that i just love} or just pattern play in general.

1. five different neon nail colors {i used sally hansen xtreme wear: 130 blue me away/320 fuchsia power/110 green with envy/150 sunkissed/360 mellow yellow}
2. clear nail polish {i used sally hansen no chip 10 day 01 clear}
3. fine craft glitter {i used florentine gold glitter by martha stewart}

1. on fresh clean nails begin applying alternating colors to nail tips, freehand or using sticker strips
2. allow to completely dry
3. apply a clear top coat to each nail
4. allow to completely dry
5. on your ring fingernail, dab a little bit of the clear polish somewhat avoiding the nail tip color
6. carefully sprinkle the glitter onto the nail and let set for a few minutes
7. tap fingernail onto a hard surface to shake off excess glitter
8. allow to completely set
9. finish with a final top coat of clear polish onto the glittered nail in order to keep the glitter from flaking off
10. you’re all done!
