cherry jello cake

my mother-in-law introduced me to this deliciously simple cake. and as you know i love simple. it looks similar to that of a red velvet cake in my opinion. you can follow my recipe or find it on the side of betty crocker cake mix boxes. oh! and i must add that i love the whipped cream in lieu of frosting, it makes for a slightly lighter tasting dessert. and every time i serve this up the room suddenly falls silent, that’s a pretty good sign right? go bake your cake!

ingredients: {makes 1 cake}
• 1 box white cake mix
• 1/3 cup vegetable oil
• 1 1/4 cups water
• 3 egg whites
• 1 small box of flavored jello {i like cherry, strawberry and raspberry}
• cool whip
• colorful sprinkles {optional}

to do:
follow the directions on the cake mix box and bake accordingly. meanwhile follow directions on the jello box omitting adding the cold water part. once cake is baked and cooled, using a chopstick, gently poke holes over the top of the cake. pour the cooled jello liquid over the top of the cake. refrigerate for at least three hours. frost with cool whip and sprinkles. enjoy!
