kinako mochi

March 7, 2012 § 19 Comments

i did a post a while back on the savory version of this traditional japanese treat. this one is slightly sweet and tastes oh so good! and i am lucky enough every so often, to receive frozen mochi squares from my mother who makes them from scratch.

4 frozen mochi squares
1/2 cup kinako powder
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 pinch of salt
a little cup of hot water
nori {optional}
soy sauce {optional}

to do:
mix together the kinako powder, sugar and salt and set aside. toast the frozen mochi in the toaster oven until puffed up and lightly golden brown. next, dip the mochi into hot water until slightly softened. then toss into the kinako powder mixture to completely coat. wrap in nori sheets and drizzle a little soy sauce if desired. serve immediately and enjoy!
