great for getting rid of excess water and bloating because cucumbers act as a natural diuretic, and i’m all for that! xk

sweet iced tea

icedtea

i trade off between two main sources of caffeine, coffee both hot and cold, and sweet iced tea which i normally enjoy during the summer months. i like it sweet so i’ll normally use a ton of splenda but simple syrup is the way to go if you have a little second at home.

ingredients: {8 servings}
• 8 tea bags of any good quality black tea {i used earl grey + english breakfast}
• 1 small lemon {optional}
• 8 cups simmering water
• ice cubes
• simple syrup {dissolve 2 cups granulated sugar in 1 cup simmering water and allow to thicken and cool}

to do:
1. place the tea bags in a large heatproof glass pitcher. slice the lemon into wedges and add to the pitcher if desired.
2. pour the simmering water into the pitcher and let it steep for at least 5 minutes. remove the tea bags and discard. refrigerate the tea until cool.
3. add ice cubes to glasses as well as the cooled tea. sweeten with sugar or simple syrup. enjoy!

blueberry pineapple basil smoothie

April 8, 2013 § 5 Comments

blueberrypineapple

i could live on these healthy little shakes as they are delicious and so simple to make! the key ingredient that makes these smoothies so healthy is the mandatory spinach, you get your daily dose of greens and you can’t even taste them. basil is the star ingredient in this one which you can taste, it provides a nice peppery punch complimenting the sweetness from the frozen fruit. i strongly suggest that you try this one!

ingredients: {serves one}
• a handful of organic baby spinach, washed and dried
• a handful of organic sweet basil, washed and dried
• 3 T or so of 0% greek yogurt {fage is my favorite}
• 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
• 1/4 cup frozen pineapple
• 1 cup or so of coconut or almond milk
• 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder {sun warrior is a great one}
• a drizzle of agave nectar
• 1 shake of cinnamon

to do:
toss all of the ingredients into a blender or vitamix and blend until slightly smooth but still a bit chunky. serve immediately and enjoy!

fall back

August 31, 2012 § 12 Comments

lately i can really feel the beginnings of fall creep into the air. it’s an unexplainable sense of intimacy to where the sun feels as if it’s sitting in a little closer to us. and this casual outfit served me well for drinks at a slightly professional venue the other evening. have a wonderful labor day weekend everyone! xx

i had maybe the best meal of my life at anthony’s bell street diner in seattle. i know, it’s a pretty bold statement to make but i tend to do this when it comes to food. delectable salmon cakes with a golden outer crust, crunchy green beans alongside fluffy white rice drizzled with a sweet and spicy chili lime sauce sprinkled w. chives. ah! i need this now! have a wonderful weekend everyone! xxx
