sweet iced tea

August 18, 2013 § 4 Comments

icedtea

i trade off between two main sources of caffeine, coffee both hot and cold, and sweet iced tea which i normally enjoy during the summer months. i like it sweet so i’ll normally use a ton of splenda but simple syrup is the way to go if you have a little second at home.

ingredients: {8 servings}
• 8 tea bags of any good quality black tea {i used earl grey + english breakfast}
• 1 small lemon {optional}
• 8 cups simmering water
• ice cubes
• simple syrup {dissolve 2 cups granulated sugar in 1 cup simmering water and allow to thicken and cool}

to do:
1. place the tea bags in a large heatproof glass pitcher. slice the lemon into wedges and add to the pitcher if desired.
2. pour the simmering water into the pitcher and let it steep for at least 5 minutes. remove the tea bags and discard. refrigerate the tea until cool.
3. add ice cubes to glasses as well as the cooled tea. sweeten with sugar or simple syrup. enjoy!
